Leadership Calgary officially kicked off today with a two-hour informational lunch. After all of the personal introductions were made, it became abundantly clear that we’ve got a group of people assembled for this program that are, for lack of appropriate language, phenomenal. As each and every person outlined what they wanted out of the program and how they’d arrived at the decision to take part, I found myself nodding along in agreement and even smitten with a bit of awe at what an engaged and passionate bunch they are.
To say the least, I’m completely stoked; these are my kind of people..
The eight month program is by all accounts a very unique and tailored lesson in wisdom and adaptive learning (and much more) which I’m only now beginning to understand. As we progress through the year, I’ll have more to report on the topics we cover and even observations I make whilst working through the course materials but suffice it to say, this will be a very interesting Journey..
To give you just a teaser of what is to come, a segment of our first (err.. second) homework assignment. Watch Home (Maison), a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. (this is a full length film, so make sure you’ve got an hour and a half to spare before you start..) And… If you have a little extra time, or would like to catch a quick preview of what Home is all about, you can see Mr. Arthus-Bertrand’s TED Talk filmed just prior to the movie launch. (Thanks to Rahim for the early heads-up on this stuff..)
Last thing, please feel free to comment, the old CAVOK didn’t have that functionality, but I welcome your thoughts.. -J
Hmm.. It appears that you’ll need to be logged in to youtube to make the Home movie work… If you don’t have a youtube account it’ll let you create one, and if you have trouble with that, drop me a note, we’ll get you fixed up! :)
your fields need better descriptions… anyway.. responding to your own post?! smooth!
happy you’re happy with Leadership.
Thanks for the feedback Julie, I’d noticed that problem with the fields when I made my last comment.. This is a problem with the wordpress template, and I’m not entirely sure I like it, so haven’t delved in to correcting the errors yet.
Cheers,
Jordan
–UPDATE–
This issue has been resolved and the comment labels should align with their correct input boxes.. –JC
Hey there Jordan – how did Leadership Calgary 2009/2010 work out for you? I’m looking to particpate in an upcoming session and wondered if you had feedback now that you’re through your 10 months of sessions?
Thanks so much!
Lindsay
Hi Lindsay, funny you should ask, I’ve had a whole pile of LC moments over the last few weeks.. I actually found myself in Calgary with a free day and was able to sit in on the April learning day just last week! It was wonderful to get back in to the swing of things after having been finished my program almost a year..
The LC program was awesome, inspiring, frustrating, heart-warming and sometimes a bit discouraging, usually all at once! Overall the program was well worth the expense and has contributed to helping me find a bit of my own personal direction though this isn’t really the intent. What it has done is given me a much better ability to step back and do some much bigger-picture thinking around the areas that I’m passionate about. This has really informed my new found direction.. :)
I didn’t really get around to blogging the process as there was an awful lot going on behind the scenes that year, but I’d be happy to chat with you about my experience and the process on the phone or over a coffee if you like. I’d also be happy to share my presentation notes with you to give you an idea of what you can expect to dig in to.. My contact details are here. :)
