In preparation for my upcoming trip to California, I figured I needed a new belt. The last one I made has served me well for the past couple of years, but I used cheap leather because it was built more for practice than anything. The new belt is considerably higher quality Hermann Oak veg tan, and is a far nicer piece of leather than the last. Looking forward to getting this all put together! . #HermannOak #Leather #LeatherWork #LeatherBelt #LeatherStrap #Make #MakeSomething #Maker #MakerGonnaMake.

Perfect fit! Skiving leather is the process of shaving away the back of a piece to make it thinner. There are a variety of reasons you’d want to do this to a work piece, but in this case, I needed to make a loop to feed through a clip that you’ll see later. When the leather meets itself again, I wanted the thickness to be equal to that of the body of the collar on the left. I’ve always hated the inconsistency that I get with the variety of hand skiving tools that are available so I picked up a leather spitter from @tandyleather that made my life far easier. With one pull, the splitter achieves a clean, even new thickness that’s repeatable and fast.. money well spent! . #Leather #LeatherWork #DogCollar #Making #Maker #MakeSomething #Tandy #Loop
